The Next Level Workshops are all-day seminars that offer training on how to capture images correctly with DSLR's and how to edit those images with an effective workflow on the computer. The workshops are meant to provide photographers of all levels a foundational understanding of digital photography. These classes are offered repeatedly throughout the year.

 

Next Level - Part 1

 This workshop is designed to give photographers a complete understanding of digital photography. It is a hands on workshop so bring your camera. The morning session will cover the capturing of images correctly on a DSLR. The afternoon session will be image editing on the computer. You are encouraged to bring a laptop computer so you can work along with us. However, we will also have the images on a projection screen so that you can see each step involved.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • That Digital is NOT FIlm
  • How to capture better digital exposures including lighting techniques and really understanding the histogram
  • How to control white balance
  • The differences between RAW and JPEG and how to make RAW work for you.
  • Why consistency is so important
  • How to use an image editing software to obtain the best image adjustment in the least period of time
  • How to best sharpen your images
  • To develop your own workflow

  • Retouching skills on the computer

  • Noise reduction, sharpening, B/W conversion and general workflow tricks

This workshop will help you to become comfortable working in Adobe Light Room or similar software learning to create a professional workflow from beginning to end.

In this workshop you will learn:  

  • How to capture the most consistent exposures possible
  • File management, backup options and file type selection.
  • Brief overview of monitor calibration
  • General layout and system of LightRoom.
  • Must know tools and how to use them in LR
  • How to apply your editing system knowledge to working in this software
  • Hands-on practice editing a batch of files from beginning to end
  • Using Photoshop CS or Elements in conjunction with LightRoom

 Basic DSLR in the Morning Session -
Whether you have a brand new digital SLR or have had one for awhile, this class will help you learn the controls that are common to all brands of these popular cameras.  You will also learn more about general photography as it applies to exposure, flash use, lenses, etc.  Don’t miss this foundational class that will give you the knowledge you need to explore specific areas of photography with your camera.

Intermediate Digital SLR  after lunch - 
If you have a good basic understanding of photography but want to know how to use all the features and options of the camera in various real-life shooting situations, this class is for you. We will review the basics and then explore how to get the most out of your DSLR camera.
